Are you ready to captivate your audience’s undivided attention during your business presentations? Being able to deliver clear and concise presentations is an invaluable skill in today’s fast-paced business world. Whether you’re presenting research findings or pitching
a new product your presentation can make a difference, so, buckle up because we’re going to be looking at tips on how to deliver impactful presentations that will resonate with your audience and keep them engaged the whole time.
Starting Strong!
To captivate your audience’s attention you need to hook them from the start. You can start by using a thought-provoking question, a surprising statistic, or a relevant anecdote to set the stage for your presentation. When presenting, deliver the information as a cohesive narrative. Your presentation should have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Just like a story! This can help your audience connect with the information you are sharing. When presenting avoid presenting just facts and figures. Help your audience understand “why” this information is important and how it can benefit your audience or their business.
Format Your Slides for Success!
How you format your slides is important to the success of your presentation. You may think that jamming as much information on your slides is the best thing for your presentation but it’s not. Keep it simple. You should avoid overloading your slides with text. You can use concise bullet points, clear visuals, and large fonts to enhance visibility. You want your audience to be focused on listening to what you have to say rather than reading the jampacked slide behind you. However, you can incorporate high-quality images, graphs, and charts to support your points. If you do need to add text you can utilize the 777 rule or the 10-20-30 rule to guide you. The 777 rule recommends a maximum of 7 lines of text on any slide. A maximum of 7 words on any one line, and a maximum of 7 slides in a 20-minute talk. You can also utilize the 10-20-30 rule which recommends no more than 10 slides. No longer than 20 minutes. No larger than 30-point font. Additionally, you can choose relevant, appealing, and easy-to-understand visuals. You can use a clear color scheme and consistent fonts to create visual harmony. Keep the aesthetics of your presentation consistent throughout your presentation for a professional and polished look.
The Art of Persuasive Language:
When delivering your presentation consider your audience and tailor your language accordingly. Read the room and notice how your audience reacts to the way you use certain words. You can use technical jargon sparingly and explain complex concepts clearly and concisely. The way you phrase your sentences can also make a difference. You can implement active voice to make your presentation more engaging and dynamic. An example of using active voice is instead of saying “ The report was completed,” you can say “ We completed the report.” You can also incorporate strong verbs and impactful adjectives to emphasize your message and convey it clearly.
Engaging Delivery
Aim to keep your audience engaged throughout your presentation. You don’t want your audience yawning and looking at the time. To avoid this you should avoid using a monotonous tone. Use vocal variety, change your pace, and include pauses for emphasis. You should also maintain eye contact with your audience and project your voice with confidence. Another tip to keep your audience engaged is to pose questions, conduct polls, or invite audience participation. To pull off your presentation you should rehearse your presentation beforehand. This can help you identify areas you need improvement in, refine your timing, and gain confidence when presenting. Remember, practice makes perfect!
Fin!
To end your presentation you can end with a call to action. Let your audience know what you want them to do after your presentation, whether it’s making a decision, taking action or simply remembering your key message.
